Snorkel Mask to N95 or Surgical Mask (with included adapter)

“FDA recognizes that, when alternatives, such as FDA-cleared masks or respirators, are unavailable, individuals, including healthcare professionals, might improvise PPE. FDA does not intend to object to individuals’ distribution and use of improvised PPE when no alternatives, such as FDA-cleared masks or respirators, are available.”

The SnorkPPE was designed to provide a form of emergency PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during the COVID-19 crisis. It’s especially designed for those on the front lines: our first responders and medical professionals. With limited supplies, I wanted to offer a fast, easy, and low-cost option to use the best available filter medium. The unique aspect of this design is that the opening flares out, allowing more mask material to be used and requiring less effort for breathing.

It’s designed to be simple and elegant. For example, the size is deliberate to work with a surgical mask easily. To cut the mask, there’s no need to measure. Just trim the edges (e.g. the ear loops, seams, and metal nose). Now fold in half lengthwise and cut. Now fold that in half and cut. You now have four pieces ready to go.

The 3D part is designed for use with commonly available full-face snorkel masks. As of this writing April 2020, these are still readily available. See Documentation for more details on what snorkel mask to use.
